The final address is in Putnam County and will be provided upon registration.

Sustainable & Organic Perennial Workshop

This will be the first of two Siembra la Cena courses that our program will be offering to new and existing program participants entirely in Spanish. This is an adapted version of the Seed to Supper class where we go over organic practices on how to build the soil, planning what to grow, reading seed packets, beneficial insects/animals, and common pests as organic solutions to manage the pressures. This class is open to the general public and popular with clients from our other programs and is a required course for first year Garden Program participants.

Transition to Organic Farming Workshop – North Dakota

In this series, we will explore the history of the National Organic Program and its regulations, current state of the organic seed industry, and what this practically means for you as an organic inspector. In Part I, you will learn the history of national organic standards within the U.S. context and relevance of the National Organic Programs regulations. Through exploring case studies in Part II, participants will develop a deeper understanding of the nuances of organic seed production from the farmer perspective.

Join SE Partner, Rodale Institute, in partnership with the University of Georgia Extension, will host the Organic Growers Seminar, an educational event designed to support small-scale farmers in learning about and adopting organic farming practices. This event is supported by USDA SE TOPP.
The seminar is geared toward current and transitioning small-scale organic growers. Presentations will cover a range of topics, including organic production practices, soil health, GAP and food safety, certification considerations, and access to resources. The event will also include a hands-on learning activity, where participants will create a custom pollinator blend for their farm.
This event is free of charge, and lunch will be provided. Registration is required, and attendance will be capped at 50 participants.

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, through its Urban Agriculture Program, will host a Public Information Session and Forum titled Water Access for Urban Farming on Friday, March 27, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will be held in Waterloo at the Black Hawk County Extension and Outreach Office, and is presented in partnership with Waterloo Water Works and the University of Northern Iowa Center for Energy &amp; Environmental Education (UNI CEEE). This session builds on the momentum of a previous Urban Agriculture Program public forum held in Waterloo. The event follows the program’s mission of urban ag outreach, education, and strengthening local urban agriculture systems.

Ed Curry, founder of Curry Seed &#038; Chile Co., is a nationally recognized organic chile grower and leader in water conservation. On his 3,000-acre farm, Ed prioritizes soil health and plant breeding to maintain both financial and environmental sustainability. Recently, he&#8217;s been partnering with MyLand and Arizona State University to implement a new tool to achieve his farm goals: microalgae.

Shayka Nyame Selassie of Detroit Strawbale Revolution will instruct us in history, cultural philosophy, and practical techniques of cob and strawbale structures, which uses sustainable/organic materials that earth environment provides. In this demonstration class, we will gather materials to make the cob mixture then use it to build strawbale benches with awnings for Earth Sanctuary. Vegetarian lunch will be provided.

Join the Berkeley Food Institute and Berkeley School of Journalism for a conversation on ultra-processed foods (UPFs), school meals, and the future of healthy food systems. In 2025, California became the first state in the nation to define and phase out harmful UPFs from school meals by 2035 &#8211; marking a pivotal moment in how states regulate the types of food served regularly to millions of students. In parallel, the state also recently invested nearly $100 million in its Farm to School Program, to bring fresh, locally-sourced foods into school cafeterias. This discussion comes amid growing evidence of the harmful impacts of UPFs, and as California schools prepare to serve more than 1 billion meals this year.
The panelists will consider pressing questions about how to address the dangers of ultra-processed foods in our diets. Can product bans and reformulations have a meaningful impact? Guided by the theme “We Got Us: Rooted in Community. Ready for What’s Next,” the conference will feature hands-on workshops, farmer-led sessions, and expert panels focused on resilience, land stewardship, business continuity, succession planning, and navigating evolving systems that impact our farms and foodways.

The Kentucky Black Farmers Conference

Farmers, researchers, educators, and agricultural service providers from across the Northeast are invited to the 2026 Cornell Organic Field Crops &amp; Dairy Conference, to be held Friday, March 6, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Lux Hotel &amp; Conference Center in Waterloo, N.Y.
Co-hosted by <a href="https://www.newyorksoilhealth.org/" data-entity-type="external">New York Soil Health</a> and Cornell CALS, the annual conference brings together leaders in organic grain, dairy, and livestock systems to share practical tools, new research, and farmer-tested strategies to support resilient and profitable organic production.

Participants will explore how to move from raw agricultural products to marketable packaged goods through market research, customer positioning, product differentiation, packaging considerations, and sales channel strategy. The workshop will also cover scalability and startup cost considerations to help farmers assess feasibility and readiness before investing in production
Beyond the Harvest is a four-part workshop series for established farms exploring value-added food production and organic certification. The series supports farmers in moving from product concept to compliant production, with a strong emphasis on understanding regulatory requirements and preparing value-added operations for organic inspection.
Participants will:

<li>Review foundational information related to product development, including market research, customer positioning, packaging, scalability, startup costs, and sales channels</li>
</ul>

<li>Learn how state and federal regulations apply to value-added food products, including those made in co-packing operations and shared-use kitchens</li>

<li>Learn the organic certification process from application through inspection and renewal, with practical guidance on Organic System Plans (OSP), managing organic integrity in shared-use facilities, and preparing documentation for inspection</li>
